Claude Desktop supports stdio transport, which means servers run as local processes. This is the most secure transport option — data never leaves your machine.

Cursor

Cursor's MCP integration is particularly powerful because it combines tool access with the editor context. Your AI assistant can read your codebase and query your database in the same conversation.

GitHub Copilot

How to Find the Right Server
With thousands of MCP servers available, finding the right one matters. Here is what to evaluate:
Match the transport — Check that the server supports the transport your tool uses. Claude Desktop and Cursor use stdio. Some tools support HTTP-based transports for remote servers.
Check permissions — A server that only needs read access is inherently safer than one requesting write permissions. Start with read-only servers and expand access as needed.
Evaluate maintenance — Check when the server was last updated. An actively maintained server gets security patches and compatibility updates. A stale server may break with the next SDK update.
